From Oct 9 to 11, 2012, Professor Oliver J. Hao from University of Maryland visited Peking University (PKU). Professor Hao visited the Environmental Engineering Lab and had deep discussions with PKU faculties. On Oct 10, Professor Hao gave a lecture on the past and future of environmental issues. He proposed a E8 solutions, including Ecoefficiency, Engineering, Education, Economy, Ecology, Energy, Equity and Ethics
Background: Dr. Hao is currently Emeritus Professor at Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Maryland. Dr. Hao received his B.S. degree from Cheng Kung University; M.S. degree from Colorado State University; and Ph.D degree from University of California, Berkeley. He has practical consultant experience with PE license in the state of Ohio and Indiana. He is the honorable member of American Civil Engineer Society with Diplomat from American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Dr. Hao’s research interest include wet air oxidation of hazardous wastes; cometabolism of hazardous organics; nutrient removal; biological process control; biological nitrate, sulfate, chromium(VI) and selenium(IV) reduction. Dr. Hao has published more than 100 papers and served as Associate Editor, Journal of Environmental Engineering (1990-2000), and currently as Editor for Chemosphere (2000-present) and Associate Editor for Critical Review in Environmental Science and Technology (2000-present).
